Welcome, fans of James Beck and/or Dad's Army!
This website is created to support my upcoming book, a biography on James Beck (or Jimmy), the British actor who became famous for his role as Private Walker in the classic sitcom Dad's Army.
A born entertainer and actor, Jimmy was a man loyal to his friends and family – and devoted to the love of his life, Kay. He touched upon so many; testimony to this are the lovely anecdotes and endearing stories people kindly shared for my book – a tribute to the man who, from the moment I saw him in Dad's Army's platoon, stood out for me. His life was tragically cut short, but what an awful lot Jimmy Beck packed in it!
With the cooperation of James Beck’s family and friends, and those who had wonderful memories to share, I endeavour to create a unique insight into a man who never grew up. The charming, handsome man we will always remember - dashing across the screen, joking and smiling - but also the more private, complicated individual behind the public image, reminding us that, in the end, Jimmy Beck was only human.
